Ingredients:
2 tsp sugar 1 cup warm water 2 tsp yeast 2 ¼ cups flour 2 tbsps oil 1 tsp salt or 1 1/2 tsps pizza spice |
1. Preheat oven to 400F.
2. Dissolve sugar in warm water in a medium mixing bowl. 3. Sprinkle yeast on top. Let stand 5 min. 4. Add 1 cup flour and oil. Mix well with a wooden spoon. 5. Add remaining 1 ¼ cups flour and salt or pizza spice. 6. Knead on floured counter for at least 5 min. Add extra flour a little at at time if dough is too sticky to handle. 7. Divide dough into 6-8 pieces and roll each into a rope about 30cm (1 ruler length). 8. Place on a parchment lined cookie sheet, cover with tea towel and allow to rise until doubled in size, about 20-30 min. 9. Bake 15min. or until browned and baked through. 10. Immediately out of the oven, rub sticks with a block of butter or margarine and sprinkle with the topping of your choice: garlic salt, coarse salt, sesame seeds, poppy seeds... |
